Adult Nature & Still Life Drawings

Woven Stll Life

Inspired by cubism and works of Picasso and Braque, students painted the same still life two times: one in low key colors and the other in high key colors. Cutting them into strips and weaving them created a fascinating movement of design similar to cubism. Ages 7-12.

Pattern Animals

Grades 1-5 drew their animals first then colored them with heavy crayon. Next they painted one section at a time and etched through wet acrylic paint to make line and shape patterns.

"Birds of Light", grades 1-3

"A blue bird flew at night to help other birds who were lost from their flock, or who were weary or hungry. Blue Bird did this rescue work all of her life and when she got old, one day she carried two birds at the same time and her aged body couldn't carried on and she glided into a nest and died. Yet her spirit lived on as other birds claim that a 'bird of light' with many colors is still flying at night helping other birds in the sky. So the pastel stenciled bird is Blue Bird flying and the cutout paper stencil represents the 'bird of light' or spirit of Blue Bird."
